Forgetting the Past

Sunday, July 17, 2022 7:44 PM
Sunday, July 17, 2022 7:44 PM

To move forward, we must be willing to let go of the past.

Don’t look back:

“But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13b-14).” “But Jesus said to him, ‘No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God’ (Luke 9:62).” The apostle Paul says he forgets those things which are behind so he can reach forward to those things which are ahead. Then Jesus says we cannot follow Him if we are going to keep looking back and rehearsing our past.

 Let go and let God:

God is in the now and the future. Our pasts, if we cling to them, will cause us to stumble and never allow us to move forward in our lives. As people (including me), we need to learn to let go of those things we cannot do anything about. Whatever it is has happened: we cannot unring the bell.

Live in the present:

So, let’s live in the present — right now. That is where God is — He is with us now. Letting go of past hurts, past mistakes, past regrets can be a tough job. But if we believe, God will help us to be healed, set free, delivered from what transpired in our past.

Let’s focus on today, and let God know how much we appreciate Him!

He’s the God of Another Chance

Monday, July 11, 2022 9:41 AM
Monday, July 11, 2022 9:41 AM

We all make mistakes at times. We make bad decisions as well.

It’s never too late:

It is never too late to get things right with God. God is the God of another chance! He is always willing to forgive us our trespasses as long as we are willing to forgive others their trespasses. Every one of us goes through good seasons and tough or bad seasons. In our darkest moments there is forgiveness if we are willing to repent. Repent means to change your mind.

God is our friend:

I used to think that God was out to get me or if I made one mistake, I’d be out. What I have learned is that is not true. God is there to help us and strengthen us to do His will, His word. We just have to learn to cling to His word, not the words of others. God is our friend, not our enemy! He doesn’t want to hurt us, instead He wants to help us.

There is always hope:

I believe I have experienced His grace and mercy in a way that gives me hope. None of us is without sin, so we should stop acting as if we are. None of us! So, what do we do? We never stop loving God for any reason. We don’t have to be perfect to receive His promises, His blessings. We must be willing and purpose to never quit. Never stop seeking Him.

Whatever areas we are struggling with, we need to keep seeking Him, doing His word, and we will see how good He really is.

Our Actions

Monday, July 4, 2022 8:37 AM
Monday, July 4, 2022 8:37 AM

As Christians, our responsibility is to obey God — to do what He asks.

Intentions:

We deal so much with the intentionality of our heart when we should be concerned with the obedience we walk in. It’s the willing and obedient who eat of the good of the land (Isa 1:19). When we focus so much on the intention of our motives, it can paralyze us spiritually. Instead, we should work to obey God and His word; just do what He asks. I believe this would simplify our walk. God will deal with our intention (the why-we-do-what-we-do), because who can know the heart?

Actions:

“But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve (Jer. 17:10).” One translation states, “according to the results of his deeds.” It’s what we do that matters with God, at times, more than why we do it.

Feelings:

Maybe we don’t want to help or don’t feel like helping someone, but if we help them anyway, who cares how we felt? We may not feel like obeying or want to obey God, but if we obey anyway, then God says that’s what He will deal with — our actions.

Motives:

Only God knows the heart fully — our motives. Those are all subject to change over time. But what He sees, what He rewards or deals with, are our actions. What we do is what counts. I had good intentions, but I didn’t do anything. That doesn’t help anyone. It has been said, “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”

We must do what we know is right and not get so caught up with the intention of our actions.

Roe vs Wade Overturned

Monday, June 27, 2022 9:55 AM
Monday, June 27, 2022 9:55 AM

On Friday, June 24, a landmark decision (overturning Roe vs Wade), which gives states the right to pass the strictest laws regarding abortion (murder), came down from the Supreme Court. Some states have already made it almost impossible to have an abortion. It was a great day for America to overturn Roe vs Wade.

Playing God:

Those who fight to kill babies claim that now a woman doesn’t have any say over her body, which is a distraction from the real issue. None of us get to play God and decide who lives and who dies. Most abortions are about convenience, not taking responsibility for our actions and decisions. The other thing is that they fight to murder babies as long as our tax dollars pay for it.

Every child:

It’s so sick and disgusting that any human being could be so callous as to murder a baby just because it’s not convenient to have it. The truth is, every child has the ability to be loved, every child! We should thank God for this decision and keep on fighting to protect the unborn, especially here in NM. We should insist that any candidate whom we vote for is against all abortions. To minimize or compromise is not acceptable.

Healing and restoration:

One more thing if you have had an abortion. At Legacy Church we offer help to heal and restore those who chose to get an abortion, but then realized it wasn’t right.

Let’s never quit fighting for those who can’t fight for themselves.

Thank God.

One of Our Greatest Blessings

Monday, June 20, 2022 10:31 AM
Monday, June 20, 2022 10:31 AM

Father’s Day is not as respected and popularly observed as Mother’s Day. The reason for this is: even though people may experience difficult issues with their moms; for the most part, they believe, “My mom loves me.” The same is not true for fathers because, for the most part (not always), men have a more difficult time expressing their feelings to their children.

Many children (and I have met some) go through life with the mistaken notion that their fathers don’t love them. This is a tragedy because most dads love their children and work hard to provide a life for them. But there is still something about hearing those words (“I love you”) that means a lot to children.

So, I encourage the dads out there to remember, even though they work hard, to tell those they love that they love them. Words are powerful.

I leave you with this:

“Silent, Strong Dad” by Karen K. Boyer

He never looks for praises.

He’s never one to boast.

He just goes on quietly working

For those he loves the most.

His dreams are seldom spoken.

His wants are very few,

And most of the time his worries

Will go unspoken too.

He’s there .… a firm foundation

Through all our storms of life,

A sturdy hand to hold on to

In times of stress and strife.

A true friend we can turn to

When times are good or bad,

One of our greatest blessings,

The man that we call Dad.
